CS2 Refresh Rate & Frame Budget Calculator

Compare active monitor Hz with game FPS and theoretical refresh/frame intervals.

A monitor refresh rate and a game frame rate are not interchangeable. The display has its own update schedule; the game has its own frame-delivery schedule. This tool shows their simple timing relationship without promising an exact input-latency reduction.

Understand refresh intervals.

A monitor’s Hz is not the same as game FPS, and neither number alone establishes end-to-end latency.

The fundamental interval

A nominal 144 Hz monitor refreshes on an interval of about 6.94 ms; 240 Hz corresponds to about 4.17 ms. Those are refresh intervals, not claims about the delay from your mouse to the displayed result.

Likewise, 240 average FPS describes a frame-production rate, not guaranteed uniform spacing. If frame delivery varies widely, the average is a poor description of perceived smoothness.

Confirm the selected mode

Check the active refresh rate in Windows or your operating system’s display settings. Hardware advertised at 240 Hz can be running at another mode due to settings or the connection path.

Also check the actual in-game display mode and synchronization choices. Changing several settings at once makes it harder to understand the effect.

Avoid simplistic bottleneck claims

FPS above refresh rate can still change input responsiveness and frame availability depending on the rendering and synchronization pipeline. FPS below refresh rate does not automatically mean the monitor is a poor purchase.

This calculator does not model variable refresh rate, screen tearing, scanout, buffering or human perception. Use it as a reference before testing those systems separately.
